9 YEAR-OLD ALL-STARS CAPTURE 2007 DISTRICT TITLE

The Grosse Pointe Farms-City 9-yr. old All Star team rolled to its first District 6 Championship, beating the Grosse Pointe Park 9-yr. olds 12-7 in the title game on July 12th. Farms-City jumped out to an early 7-2 lead by the second inning and added another 5 runs in the 4th . The Park rallied in the 5th, but strong defensive performances by Will Poplawski and Michael Calcaterra, as well as a timely double play, ended the inning and sealed the victory. Matthew Gushee and Justin McMann turned in outstanding performances on the mound, limiting the Park to just 3 earned runs on 5 hits. Farms-City supported the fine pitching with a .552 team batting average and a .724 team slugging percentage. The offensive attack was led by Jared Demkowicz and Ryan McWood who combined for half of the team's run production, with crucial hits also by Jacob Montague, Alex Rothmann, Matty Barry, Brennan Ifkovits, Andy Jakub, Robert Whitaker and Henry Moesta to put the game away. The Farms-City All Stars were undefeated in the District 6 tournament, going 6-0 and outscoring the opposition 85-22. It was a very balanced team effort, with every player making significant contributions during our tournament run. During the tournament, the team posted an impressive .535 batting average, .729 slugging percentage, and .647 on-base percentage. The Farms-City team was coached by Brian Demkowicz (Manager), Andy Montague, and Jay Poplawski, with significant help from Michael Calcaterra, Todd Ifkovits, and Art McWood. Many thanks to all of the fans and parents who helped and supported the team during our championship run!!
